As winter approaches and the forecast adds inches to their rain predictions, I have been looking back on the days of sunshine. This lifestyle in home session was one of my favourites from this past summer; so much light & beauty & so many windows. (!!) (I really love windows.) Also a sink bath. Because soap suds + sunshine + babies is quite possibly the world’s best combination
My 2017 was filled with photographing beautiful people & beautiful newborns. And then at the end of the year came a beautiful newborn of our own, and oh how we love him. Matthias calls baby Jamie "our precious little baby" and tells him "you don't need to be worried, because I protect you." (He also jumps on top of him, pinches him, and screams in his ear, but I'm trying to remember the good stuff.)
And this has basically been our life ever since:
I didn't know how heart-swelling it would be to see your oldest baby loving your youngest baby, and to see the adoration in the littlest one's eyes as he stares at his big brother. It's just the best thing. I've had so much fun taking the last few months off and having the opportunity to photograph our family a little bit more.
But I didn't want to leave 2017 completely behind, without sharing some of my favourite images from the year. I felt tired and pregnant for so much of it, but looking back at these images made me smile and remember all the loveliness I photographed. And here is some of it.
My goal this year has been to capture more real moments and to care less about perfection. It's definitely been a learning curve. (Jorge says this tweet he came across perfectly describes me: *wife runs back into house which is on fire* Me: "What are you doing?" Wife: "I just want to straighten up a little before the firemen get here.") But I've been trying. At least some of the time. I really have.
And so, while one little sick 3-month old naps and the other 3-year old zooms fire trucks around our family room in his pajamas, I decided to drink my cold coffee and put together some photos that summarize our 2018 so far.
I have a soft spot in my heart for family sessions at Lighthouse Park, and it's only partly because that was where my husband proposed to me. (Standing on the edge of the cliff on a blustery June day, holding hundreds of colourful balloons, with a ring precariously perched on top of a bouquet of flowers. Because he's the sweetest. Also, it's a small miracle that the ring didn't blow away.)
This was another blustery June day, and as always, this place was stunningly beautiful. (As is this family. Seriously, every time I see them they just get lovelier.)

This was last summer already - I can hardly believe it - and it warmed my heart to meet this beautiful family. They're originally from Quebec, but have moved to Vancouver for a few years, to give their children an opportunity to explore a different part of Canada. They love to discover the world together, and their love for each other was so evident even in the short time we spent together at Crescent Beach.
We had so much fun we forgot that the tide was coming in - and as the sun set I may have found myself stranded, wading through knee-deep water with my camera bag and lenses precariously perched on my back, but it was so worth it.
