vancouver family photographer / spanish banks family session

Okay, so where do I begin?!  This family's level of awesomeness was so great that it was simply not measurable on any scale of awesome.

They met me at Spanish Banks Beach with huge smiles, handshakes, and Italian accents.  And a soccer ball.  And three adorable children.  Oh, and very stylish clothes.  And - last but not least - a sense of adventure!

Cristian & Carmelina (see? even their names are so very Italian!) took everything in stride, from a sandy baby to a water-drenched son.  (Carmelina's response to this last event very much impressed me: she smiled at him, pulled out an entire second outfit from her purse, and sent him back out to play!)

Talk about wonderful.  They had me laughing the entire session & I can't wait to meet them again in the fall!

"The time has come," the Walrus said,

"To talk of many things:

Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--

Of cabbages--and kings."

I've met so many wonderful people and had so many fun sessions in the past couple weeks - so many that I haven't had time to put them up on the blog!  So here are some sneak peeks of sessions I've done and the beautiful people who have put up with my crazy ideas, laughed only minimally as I lay down in the middle of the street, and managed real smiles for the camera!

I feel so blessed to be given the opportunity of witnessing so much love :)

vancouver couple's photographer / meadow-twirl & wave-splash

From the first email Christina sent me, I knew that she and Chad were going to be a fun couple to photograph.  I love couples like them, that are unafraid of crazyness (like scaring away Canada geese by twirling in a field filled with goose droppings) or getting their clothes dirty (like walking into the shivering ocean in bare feet).

For all the days leading up to this session, the forecast had been uncertain and moody, and the day was moody too - but suddenly, near the time when our session was to begin, the sun apprehensively stepped out from behind a cloud.  The sky looked stormy still, full of blue-purple clouds, but there were patches of sunlight, and we took advantage of that.

Christina and Chad told me that a large part of their relationship was based on a mutual love of food (which is something my husband & I resonate with), so they brought along some bubble tea and strawberries, and they got dizzy from twirling, and they laughed, and Chad poked Christina's adorable little nose, and they sat on logs and kissed.  It was beautiful.  And fun.

Here is their meadowy, oceany, sun-dappled session!

Nothing went exactly as planned for this family session.  The evening was supposed to be sunny, but it was overcast.  The park area we had planned to meet at was overtaken by tents for a city fair.  Rachel's husband Dave wasn't feeling well.

But this family braved through it all!   We met at the beautiful waterfront area of North Vancouver, and Dave managed a smile for lots of photos (brave man!), and they ended up showing me their true fun, goofy side in spite of the odds.

P.S. I love Rachel's smile - I think her daughter definitely inherited it.

vancouver newborn photographer / springtime baby

I had the pleasure of photographing the maternity session for Phoenix & Dennis just a few days before this little girl was born, so it was such a joy to meet her.  She was tiny, and perfect, and completely adorable.

And she slept for most of the session.  As other newborn photographers can attest, a newborn who sleeps for most of the session will receive our eternal love and goodwill.  Not gonna lie - I was just a little bit overwhelmed by the amount of goodness and cuteness I was able to witness during this session.  (Her parents are pretty awesome too!)

Phoenix & Dennis' home was a natural light photographer's dream, as well: huge floor-to-ceiling windows EVERYWHERE, and so much white.  I felt like I was outdoors!  When I speak to clients who want indoor newborn photography, I can never over-emphasize the importance of windows, and lots of them: they make everything better.  Like these photos.

Here they are!
