You know that thing I do, where I photograph a session and blog it a few years later? Yes. Well, I'm not doing that today. This wintery, hot chocolatey, Christmas Gastown family session just happened a few weeks ago. And I love it.

November isn't usually my favourite, because it's a little bit like Narnia, when it was always Winter and never Christmas (except in Vancouver's case, it's always Rain and never Christmas). But occasionally, this month startles me with beauty, and this time the combination of winter & fall, with colourful leaves and blustering wind and thick winter coats, was completely magical.

(Side note, because I know you love it as much as I do: Averi's little outfit is from Leuie, which is very possibly the most adorable children's shop ever.)

Vanessa & Aaron probably have two of the cutest babies in the world. Let's just start off by saying that.

They weighed around 5 pounds each when I met them. That's the approximate weight of a honeydew, just to put it in context (yes I googled that), and I was a little bit in awe of their perfectly miniature hands and feet. I'm also a little bit in awe of Vanessa & Aaron, because I have no idea how they manage with two newborns, when I barely made it through with one. 

But what incredible parents they are, and what a beautiful little family they have.

Saturday's wedding was so sweet, and simple, and beautiful. It was such a perfect representation of who Lyd & Andrew are - focused entirely on their love for God and each other, and for the people in their lives, with lots of hugs and laughter and happy tears.

Lyd & Andrew are getting married! This is exciting! They are adorable! I'll stop using exclamation marks now! (!!!!!!) (Just had to get those last few out of my system.)

Whytecliff Park in West Van is a favourite haunt of nearly every Vancouver photographer, and it's easy to see why. (Not so easy to keep all the other people out of the background of every photo, however.) And the mystical, magical green forest at the beginning of the session? That was a little corner right next to the parking lot - just to give you some context.

We were blessed with beautiful light in this beautiful place with these beautiful people, and these photos make my heart happy.

{vancouver family photographer} a toddler & a little house

Until a few months ago, we lived in a tiny one-bedroom apartment next to the beach in Kits, and we loved it so so much. We decided we wouldn't leave until we found a place we could love just as much. So when I saw the rental ad on craigslist for a tiny white and red house with a backyard and windows everywhere, my heart jumped just a little bit, and we spent weeks dreaming about it before we finally signed the lease. This little house is everything we were looking and praying for, and yes - we love it so so much.

I decided to document our new place from Matthias' perspective.
